FIRM is hosting a Southeast Asian Voter Education Forum on Saturday, October 20, from 10am to 6pm at the FIRM offices.
The event will bring prominent community leaders to speak on the importance of civic engagement for the Hmong community, and present Hmong language voter educational videos around American political parties and the 2012 California Ballot Propositions. Hmong community members will attend the event to receive in-language assistance on voter registration, absentee voting, and sample ballot help. The Hmong voter education videos from this event will also be viewable at FIRM for the two weeks up to the November 6 Elections to provide assistance for Hmong absentee voters, and to provide sample ballot notes for those who will be going to the polls to vote.
According to the 2010 Census, Asian Americans are the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States, positioned to be a strong swing vote in many regions of the country. At the same time, Asian American and Pacific Islanders (API) have the lowest voter registration rate of all ethnic and racial groups. FIRM’s Hmong Voter education Forum is part of our Fresno Hmong Get-Out-the-Vote effort this year to provide in-language voter assistance for the Fresno Hmong voting community to ensure them greater access to the ballot this year.
