It is with deep regret, profound appreciation, and commitment to the future, that the board of directors of Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM) has accepted the resignation of the Rev. Dr. Sharon Stanley as Executive Director effective January 1. She will be assuming the position of the national Director of Refugee and Immigration Ministries for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The position office will be located in Washington, D.C., at National City Christian Church.
Sharon is the founding director of FIRM and has advanced a bold vision for sharing Christ’s love to build communities of hope with new Americans. Beginning over 16 years ago, FIRM has made an impact on Fresno and surrounding areas through numerous programs, advocacy, and collaboration. Previous to founding FIRM, Sharon worked for five years resettling refugees throughout Central/Northern California and Nevada for the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.
Because Dr. Stanley has built a strong foundation and a competent, committed team at FIRM, the board is confident that the mission will continue. We have formed a transition team to lead us through the coming months as we seek new leadership and reaffirm our commitment FIRM’s vision. We congratulate Dr. Stanley on her new position and adventure and are grateful for all of her years of service and inspiration.
