FIRM offers a variety of opportunities for volunteers to serve, either as individuals or with a group. Throughout the year, we connect with local youth groups and volunteer groups as well as individuals who help with projects like working with youth in our after-school program, working in local community gardens, or special one-day outreaches. In addition, individuals can also help with a variety of tasks like seasonal cleaning, filing, assembling mailings, occasional graphic design and more.
To volunteer, start by signing up here. You can also call our office and ask for our Volunteer Coordinator, to inquire about opportunities, especially for groups of volunteers.
Some volunteer opportunities are seasonal, and can be tailored especially for groups who come from outside of Fresno for a Service-Learning Trip.
Donation Days
Donation Days take place on the second Tuesday of every month in the FIRM campus parking lot. Staff and volunteers schedule furniture and household item pickups early in the morning, while new refugee families are invited to shop first. The entire community is welcome to shop starting at 1 PM. Afternoon, staff and volunteers deliver the donated items to the respective refugees’ homes. All donated items are free to new arrivals and the community. We are in need of volunteers for Donation Days on a monthly basis.
Spring Break
If you are interested in volunteering over spring break, you can celebrate a smaller-scale festival with the neighborhood families. The kids love to play with new friends at any time of the year! Volunteer groups can adapt their outreaches based on time available, and focused on the interests of the group.
Project-Based
FIRM has MANY project-based volunteer opportunities. Help maintain the facility and grounds of the campus, paint a mural in the community room, help update one of the rooms on campus, or work on one of FIRM’s ever-evolving list of projects! This is a perfect option for short-term volunteers, service learning and one-day service days.

Interns
FIRM hosts several interns every year! Intern in our housing counseling, refugee resettlement, mental-health programs, youth program, in the office or design your own internship experience! We guarantee a unique and meaningful internship that will help anyone understand what it means to serve the refugee community in Fresno. Internships are offered throughout the entire year for students or anyone wanting to grow their skills, increase their impact and gain valuable experience. Interested interns should contact us for more information.
