Two interns will be coming to work at FIRM soon through connections with the Mennonite Central Committee. One intern will come over the summer, and the other in the fall for an entire year.
Jordan Piceno, a Summer Service Program Intern, will arrive in June and serve through August 15. MCC’s Summer Service Program supports young people of color to develop their leadership skills through working with their local churches and communities. Jordan is already familiar with FIRM through his work with the afterschool program run by Care Fresno on the FIRM campus. Jordan’s focus will be hosting the mission teams that visit FIRM throughout the summer, coordinating their activities and providing cultural education.
Cui Cui will come to FIRM through MCC’s International Volunteer Exchange Program, which brings 60 volunteers from over 25 different countries to the US and Canada for a year of service. MCC financially supports each volunteer over the year. Cui is fluent in Chinese and Korean, holds a Masters degree, and has previously volunteered in a senior center and an orphanage for disabled children. Cui is interested in FIRM’s work of refugee resettlement and work with low income children.
FIRM will also have several other interns serving throughout the summer and throughout the year! The internship program is a huge asset both to FIRM and to the greater community as young people learn about serving in cross cultural settings.
