Last month in April, FIRM in partnership with the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno, successfully hosted orientations for individuals who would like to get involved with Syrian refugees. The orientation covered topics on volunteerism, expectations, and cultural customs. Over 120 volunteers participated in these orientations, which is required for all volunteers working with the Syrian refugee families.
Volunteers are now being matched up with their interests and availability. The largest need for volunteers is the ESL (English as a Second Language) program, which is anticipated to begin the end of June or early July. This summer start will let our Syrian families celebrate Ramadan, a month long traditional celebration in the Muslim faith, which will run May 26 to June 25 this year.
Another volunteer orientation will be planned in the near future. We would like to thank everyone who has participated in an orientation and thank the Lord for allowing us to bless the refugee community in Fresno this way!
If you’d like to volunteer, submit the form here and indicate your areas of interest. Please share these volunteer opportunities with others who might be interested!
