FIRM has transitioned into two different departments of ministry; holistic and Gospelcentric. We believe that both departments are essential to carrying out our mission statement of “Sharing Christ’s love to build communities of hope with New Americans.” Essentially, the holistic ministry department is composed of programs such as our mental health programs, health care access and advocacy work (amongst many others). The Gospelcentric department is composed of programs that focus specifically on the Spiritual needs of the refugee community we serve.
Part of FIRM’s vision in 2015 is to increase the Gospelcentric programming that we offer and we are making huge strides in that direction.
Here are some key updates from the Gospelcentric ministry department:
- FIRM will launch one ministry site in partnership with Care Fresno on the FIRM campus that will include missionaries living at Summerset, a year-round afterschool/summer program and Saturday Sports.
- FIRM will launch one ministry site in partnership with Care Fresno with the House of the Gospel Slavic church that serves the Slavic refugee population. This will include missionaries living in an apartment nearby a large Slavic community, a year-round afterschool/summer program and Saturday Sports.
- FIRM will take kids from the Hmong, Lao and Slavic refugee communities to camp at Calvin Crest Christian camp this summer! At camp, they will hear the Gospel, have a true camp experience and meet hundreds of kids from throughout Fresno.
- FIRM has found a lead pastor for the Hmong Pastor Network and will be the hub for this exciting new venture. We hope to bring most of the Hmong pastors to FIRM for support, prayer, networking and partnership. We look forward to seeing how the Gospel will be advanced through this group!
