We recently had our annual fundraising event on November 7. Generally, these events focus solely on raising funds for the organization. While this is certainly important and necessary for FIRM to do the work that we do, it is not the only way that we do our work. Upon learning about the refugee story for the first time, many people’s hearts are moved and they want to help. However, many people that want to help may not be able to do so with their wallets or purses. While I certainly spend a lot of my time asking others to help meet the financial needs at FIRM (which are many!), there are also needs beyond finances at FIRM.
At the event on November 7, I certainly did ask for financial help to continue the work of FIRM for decades into the future. However, I also asked for volunteers for the launch of our after-school program in 2015. I also asked for people that would be willing to join the FIRM prayer team. Both of these needs have equal value to a check. A strong team of volunteers will allow for us to provide an after-school program for very low cost and meet a huge need in the refugee community. We will see the Lord move in many ways through a strong team of FIRM prayer warriors. Each of these have great value to the future of FIRM and I want FIRM supporters to know that no matter how you might be able to help, you are valued.
In the Church, it is commonly referred to giving God our time, talents and treasures. Perhaps you have time to invest into the ministry at FIRM in someway. Perhaps you have some special talents that the Lord has equipped you with that you might be willing to invest into this ministry. Or, perhaps the Lord has blessed you with many treasures that you might be able to give to FIRM. One way or the other, each of these comes from God and each are to be given back to God. It is my hope and prayer that you might reflect on your time, talents and treasures that He has given you and consider FIRM as a place you might invest any of these great gifts from God.
